Son I played 2nd base and went to college doing it.
The best way for you to improve if you are in good shape is to work on your fielding skills and strengthen your arm and spent a whole lot of time in the cage. Because when it boils down to it, no matter how good you are in the field the players that can hit are the ones that will play.
Get someone to hit ground balls to you. Practice getting in front of the ball and practice backhands.
Play long toss catch with someone even if they can’t throw as far as you as long as they are there to catch it. This will help strength your arm and accuracy when you have to throw as the cut off man.
Get as much batting practice as you can. Go to machines or have someone throw to you. When hitting remember always look for the fastball and adjust to the breaking ball.
Good luck – Hard work pays off.
Sign up for a baseball camp. Most pro and college teams have a camp. It will give you a leg up on the competition.
also run out plays, never asume that the short stop can play second and hold the runner. Also play hard.
And have heart, you will get some playing time.
play out field. i play left for freshman team. i am getting a scholarship to oklahoma aleady. 2nd is hard to play. move to an easier spot for you. good luck.
keep practicing and don’t give up!Make sure you show all your good aspects when the coach is looking and show him your willing to work hard and are improving most likely he will take notice and put you in…especially if the other guy is making a lot of mistakes.
Get a book called "Learn to play baseball better than ever"
It helped me alot
you sound like a stuck up piece of sh-it, no wonder the coach put in the other guy
don’t just improve on fielding, you gotta be well rounded and improve your hitting ass well. as a middle infielder, you have to learn how to be quick with transitions and being in the right place at the right time. work on your double play moves, your cut offs, and your range. and above all… if you can’t hit, you won’t play.
